Metsä Board’s CEO Mika Joukio:

“Metsä Board is a pure-play paperboard company with solid performance in profitability and a strong market position. We are the market leader in lightweight, high-quality fresh fibre paperboards, where demand is driven by strong market trends, such as urbanisation, sustainability, product safety and the growth in e-commerce. Together with brand-owners, we develop more efficient and environmentally friendly packages and use the potential of lightweight paperboards in an innovative way. High availability of the main raw material, northern wood, and self-sufficiency in pulp provide a solid foundation for Metsä Board’s development in the future.”

“Our profitability is based on cost efficiency and healthy sales prices, driven by high-quality pulps and unique technical know-how. During recent years, we have grown clearly above the average market growth level. In the medium term, we are continuing to allocate our capital to moderate growth, taking into account the prevailing market environment. Our decision-making is based on our profitability targets and aims to create the highest possible shareholder value. We want to distribute competitive dividends to our shareholders and maintain our strong financial position. Our long-term financial targets remain unchanged.”

“Our previous growth investment in the Husum mill in Sweden has increased our paperboard capacity significantly. In folding boxboard, we are continuing our measures to improve the average sales price. We estimate that the positive impact on profitability from the Husum integrated mill will be over EUR 100 million between 2016 and 2019.”
