Metsä Fibre press release 11.4.2022

Metsä Group has signed a site maintenance contract with TiMi Tec Oy for the Kemi mill site, Finland. The agreement covers the site maintenance for the Metsä Fibre new bioproduct mill and Metsä Board’s Kemi board mill.

“An effective site maintenance contract is a key factor in the maintenance of the bioproduct mill worksite and the future mill. The contract includes efficient solutions for the management and maintenance of the mill sites to maintain the safety, usability and comfort of the outdoor areas. TiMi Tec has been a reliable partner for us for a long time,” says Tomi Seppä, the mill manager of the Kemi bioproduct mill from Metsä Fibre.

“Metsä Group has been an important partner for us since 2010, and this contract strengthens our partnership. The service agreement includes site maintenance, maintenance services for the wood yard and tracks, and other work required for the process. To meet the requirements of the new contract, we will recruit 8 to 10 new people,” says Timo Kankaanpää, the Chairman of the Board of TiMi Tec Oy.

The Kemi bioproduct mill project is progressing according to plan. During the construction phase, the mill’s employment effect will be approximately 10,000 person-years, more than half of which will be carried out in Kemi. The total number of employees working during the construction phase is expected to be about 15,000. Around 1,400 people are currently working at the site. Through its direct value chain, the new bioproduct mill will employ around 2,500 people in Finland, some 1,500 more than the employment effect of the current Kemi pulp mill. The bioproduct mill project has a high degree of Finnish origin, approximately 70%. Totalling EUR 1.85 billion, the Kemi bioproduct mill is the largest investment in the history of the Finnish forest industry. The fully fossil free bioproduct mill will start up in the third quarter of 2023. In addition to pulp, the new mill will produce other bioproducts such as tall oil, turpentine and bioelectricity.
