Metsä granted funding to 22 new biodiversity projects

22 new projects across Finland focusing on strengthening biodiversity and ecological restoration were selected for Metsä Group’s Funding programme for nature projects. A total of EUR 300 000 was granted. This year, several accepted projects combined concrete nature management measures, environmental education, and community involvement. In 2026, funding was granted, among others, to the restoration project of Sarvikas wetland and a biodiversity project focusing on local nature sites in Säkylä. Metsä Fibre’s Renko sawmill has been selected as the company’s safest unit in 2025 among its eight production facilities. Metsä Group is planning a commercial plant for wood-based carbon capture in Rauma

Metsä Group has started a pre-engineering project for the first commercial biogenic, i.e. wood-based, carbon capture plant. Metsäliitto Cooperative acquired 5.1% of the shares in Metsä Fibre from Itochu Corporation

Metsä Group’s parent company Metsäliitto Cooperative (Metsäliitto) and Japanese trading company Itochu Corporation (Itochu) have completed a transaction on 4 February 2026, in which Metsäliitto acquired a 5.1% stake in Metsä Fibre Oy (Metsä Fibre) from Itochu.
