Metsä Group’s Annual Review 2023 includes a sustainability statement compliant with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive

Metsä Group has published its Annual Review for the financial period 1 January–31 December 2023 in Finnish and English. 

The 2023 Annual Review closely follows the requirements and structure laid out in the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). The ESRS are part of the new Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and apply to Metsä Group’s reporting starting in 2024.

By preparing for the new statutory reporting requirements as early as 2023, Metsä Group aims to be at the forefront promoting the move towards assured sustainability reporting.

“The new directive will emphasise the role of sustainability matters in companies. Metsä Group wanted to progress more quickly than required by the directive, as we are a large operator and wish to serve as an example to others in the importance of sustainability work,” says Vesa-Pekka Takala, CFO of Metsä Group.

The CSRD requires large companies to publish their sustainability information as part of the Board of Directors’ report in accordance with the requirements of the directive and the ESRS. The goal is to improve the transparency and comparability of companies’ sustainability reporting.

“The Sustainability statement prepared in accordance with the directive sheds light on Metsä Group’s operations in a whole new way. This was a huge effort for us, but we also learned a great deal from it. Assured reporting is a good way for us to further develop our operations and sustainability,” Takala adds.

The Annual review includes the financial statements, Board of Directors’ Report, Sustainability statement, auditor’s report, Corporate Governance Statement and Remuneration Report. 

The Remuneration Report and Corporate Governance Statement have been published as individual documents in Finnish and English. Metsä Group’s 2023 Annual Brochure has been published in Finnish and English.
