Metsä Group to recruit 50 new specialists – apprenticeship training offers a path towards a career in the company

Metsä Group is now inviting applications for its apprenticeship training programme that will begin in January 2022. Approximately 50 new jobs will be offered in our production units around Finland.
Metsä Group’s 18-month apprenticeship training programme has become a well-established way for the company to secure its future needs for labour and to promote competence development throughout the Group. The call for applications attracts hundreds of applicants every year, including people with a degree in engineering and people looking to change careers.
In the apprenticeship training programme starting in January, successful applicants can complete a further vocational qualification, specialising in the wood product or process industry, electrical engineering and automation technology, machine mechanics and maintenance, or laboratory technology. The studies and related competence demonstrations will be completed in an employment relationship, during which the students are members of our workplace community entitling them to the same fringe benefits as our permanent employees.
After their training, the apprentices will be qualified to work as, for example, process operators, machine operators, and laboratory technicians for Metsä Group’s pulp, paperboard, tissue paper and plywood mills. A suitable educational background for the selected apprentices is a vocational qualification in electrical engineering and automation technology, process technology or mechanical engineering, or an engineering degree from a university of applied sciences.
Production jobs are diverse, and the apprentices will be able to develop their competence in many ways during their training.
“Metsä Group’s operating model in production is based on a multiple skill set, and we invest a great deal in personal development. For example, the maintenance skills of operators play a key role for us. It’s essential that people working at the mills know how to service and repair equipment,” says Marianne Oksanen, manager in charge of competence development.
“The new recruits receive a warm welcome at the mills and have the opportunity to learn on the job from their skilled colleagues. The duties require responsibility, but no one needs to cope alone. Everyone has the support of the whole team!” Oksanen points out.
As safety at work is an important element of professional skills, the entire personnel of Metsä Group is committed to proactive safety work and safe work methods.
The final application date for the training beginning in January 2022 is 3 October 2021.

Metsä Wood: Punkaharju
Metsä Fibre: Joutseno, Rauma and Äänekoski
Metsä Board: Kaskinen, Simpele and Äänekoski
Metsä Tissue: Mänttä
