Metsä Tissue invests in increasing the efficiency of its fresh fibre tissue paper production in Mänttä
Metsä Tissue, part of Metsä Group, is investing in its fresh fibre-based tissue papers aimed at local markets by renewing the tissue paper machine of the Mänttä mill. The investment is part of Metsä Tissue’s Future Mill programme. The renewed paper machine will be delivered by Valmet Corporation.
The renewal will significantly improve the mill’s energy and production efficiency and increase its production capacity. It will also allow for improving product quality, according to end-customers’ expectations.
The investment will reduce energy consumption by approximately 15 per cent per tonne of paper produced. This, in turn, will also result in lower CO2 emissions in accordance with Metsä Tissue’s sustainability goals. Metsä Tissue is committed to making its mills fossil free by 2030.
“This is an important step in our strategy towards even better industrial efficiency and product quality. The paper machine’s renewal will provide consumers with increasingly soft and strong paper while significantly reducing the amount of energy used to produce it . This will reduce carbon dioxide emissions in accordance with our sustainability goals,” says Kari Karttunen, Vice President, Production, Mänttä mill.
“We are honored to get the opportunity to contribute to Metsä Tissue’s strategic path for a sustainable production of high-quality tissue products. It is also a proof of the Advantage ViscoNip press’ capabilities and fit for rebuilds with the target to improve runnability, energy efficiency, capacity and product quality” says Björn Magnus, Sales Director, EMEA, Valmet Tissue Mills business unit.
The parties have agreed not to disclose the order value. Metsä Tissue’s Mänttä mill produces tissue paper products sold under the brands Serla, Lambi and Katrin, customers’ private label products as well as greaseproof and baking papers sold under the SAGA brand. The mill has three tissue paper machines, a greaseproof paper machine and 11 tissue paper processing lines.
