VAPO DEAL GETS GREEN LIGHT FROM FINNISH COMPETITION AUTHORITY

The Finnish Competition Authority announced on 8.3.2001 that it is giving a
conditional go-ahead for Metsäliittto to acquire a 33.3-% stake in Vapo Oy. The
EU competition authorities had earlier approved the deal in those of its
respects that apply to other Vapo businesses. The decision of the Finnish
Competition Authority is conditional as regards the wood fuel business.

The decision means that the deal will be carried through, allowing Metsäliitto
and Vapo to begin the cooperation that it provides for.

The conditions require Vapo Oy's wood fuel business and part of the external
wood fuel operations of Metsäliitto subsidiary Biowatti Oy to be sold, as one
unit, to an outside buyer. These arrangements will be started immediately.

Biowatti will ensure that fuel supplies to customers are not interrupted while
the arrangements that the deal requires are being completed.
