Metso books first parts of the orders related to Almalyk MMC’s copper smelter project in Uzbekistan

Metso has booked the first parts of the orders for JSC Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Complex’s (Almalyk MMC) copper smelter project based on the equipment and project services delivery contracts announced on August 9, 2024. The now booked order value is EUR 146 million, of which approximately EUR 100 million is booked in the Minerals segment’s 2024 fourth-quarter order intake and the rest in discontinued operations.
Almalyk MMC is the main copper producer in Uzbekistan. The company produces refined copper, gold, silver, zinc, molybdenum, lead concentrate and other products. Metso’s scope of delivery to Almalyk MMC’s new copper smelter complex includes flash smelting and flash converting, gas cleaning and sulfuric acid production technologies. The planned production capacity of the new copper smelter, which will be integrated with the company’s existing operations in Almalyk, is 300,000 tpa of copper cathodes and 1.8 million tpa of sulphuric acid.
