Webinar Series: Practical solutions for mine tailings and water

Report this content

Introducing a new webinar series on mine tailings and water. In this webinar we’ll discuss how to improve the thickener operation and what can be done if minor improvements are not enough?

Presenter of the webinar Jason Palmer, Sales Director, Surface Tailings Solutions. Jason has extensive experience in tailings solutions in minerals processing and has worked with a broad range of customers and applications all over the world.

Webinars are arranged on the BrightTALK platform. An online (one -time) registration is required. Each webinar is recorded and available on-demand after the live webinar session. We host a Q&A session at the end of every webinar, so we can uncover the grand scope of the topics discussed.

Topics covered

Part 1

Date and time: October 10, 09:00-10:00 am, EEST (+3 UTC)

In the first webinar Jason reviews the basics of thickener operation, and then expands the concept to discuss the transport and deposition of thickened tailings. Understanding what factors effect tailings storage efficiency can help target changes to the current tailings storage and transport system. Controls and automation can significantly improve the performance of a thickener plant, keeping the outputs as close as possible to the design.

Part 2

Date and time: October 17, 09:00 -10:00 am, EEST (+3 UTC)

This second webinar will discuss where the current dewatering methods are not meeting the expected future needs what alternatives are there?

The transition from thickened tailings to filtered tailings is a big step and there are other options that can transform the way tailings are stored today either increasing the useable volume of the existing tailings storage facility or reducing the amount of tailings that needs to be stored.

Jason reviews the options of converting from thickened tailings to paste deposition, segregating high sulphur from benign tails, cemented fill and filtered tailings. Further options look at alternative processing of ore sorting and coarse particle separation and their implications for tailings production.
