GLOBAL ENGINEERING COMPANY SANDVIK HOLDINGS ORGANISES UK DRIVER SAFETY DAY
Stoke-on-Trent – October 16, 2012
Global engineering company Sandvik Holdings is co-ordinating a new safety day with its driver training supplier Road Skills, which aims to teach advanced driving techniques and raise awareness of the importance of correct vehicle maintenance.
Throughout the day, qualified instructors will teach core staff and senior management from Sandvik Holdings’ UK operation how to improve handling, emergency reactions, manoeuvring and off-road skills.
The event, which will take place at Donington Park Race Circuit on 18 October, has been organised by Sandvik Holdings’ Fleet Manager, John Carter, and Director of Road Skills, David Somers.
Premium tyre manufacturer Michelin will host a safety presentation covering the importance of correct tyre pressures and tread depths, the impact tyres have on handling, and the benefits of cold weather tyres.
Days Contract Hire, which manages Sandvik Holdings’ fleet of 350 vehicles, will also be attending the event.
James Eastwood-Duke, Account Manager at Days Contract Hire, said: “We want our customers to run the safest fleets possible and believe it’s vital to educate employees in order to achieve this.
“Driver training, correct vehicle maintenance and tyre care, should be a priority for fleet managers. Sandvik Holdings is setting an excellent example to other businesses by holding this event.
“We are fully supportive of Sandvik Holdings’ goal to raise awareness about driver safety and believe Michelin is well suited to tackle any tyre-related queries.”
The event is an extension to Sandvik Holdings’ current driver training programme and may be recommended by Days Contract Hire for other fleet customers in the future.
Michelin’s Key Account Manager, Paul Brady, said: “It is hugely important that drivers are aware of how to check their tyres correctly, as under-inflated or damaged tyres can adversely affect handling, wear and fuel consumption, as well as increasing the risk of a rapid deflation with potentially serious consequences.
“It’s really positive to see fleet companies like Sandvik Holdings’ responding to driver concerns.”
Days Contract Hire manages 9,500 vehicles across the UK and has a full Michelin policy with all its customers.
