(Stoke-on-Trent – April 14, 2015) – Michelin has extended its range of long distance fuel-saving tyres with the new 385/65 R 22.5 Michelin X Line Energy F making its debut at the CV Show.

The launch enables heavy truck fleets running super single steer tyres to access Michelin’s latest generation fuel-saving tyres.

The new tyre offers a lower rolling resistance combined with up to a 15 per cent increase in mileage performance versus the 385/65 R 22.5 Michelin XFA2 Energy Anti-Splash it replaces.

Key technology featuring in the new tyre includes a robust five-rib tread pattern with wider shoulders and innovative new rubber compounds which contribute to the optimised fuel performance. Safety has been maximised thanks to the introduction of LAUR sipes, developed by Michelin to protect against tramline wear.

The tyre also features an Anti-Splash deflector, designed to dramatically reduce the projection of water (often referred to as splash) created by steer axle tyres. It is based upon a concept originally developed by Michelin for aviation use.

Guy Heywood, Commercial Director of Michelin’s truck and bus division, says: “Michelin X Line Energy tyres deliver great results on fuel; adding this new size means we can help more fleets to reduce their operating costs.”

Commenting on the technology built into the new tyre, Heywood adds: “What really stands out with the X Line Energy range is that we’ve achieved such low rolling resistance without compromising performance in other areas – this is something Michelin calls ‘Total Performance’.

“It’s testament to the more than €600 million Michelin invests in research and development every year, which has enabled us to develop a fuel-saving tyre which also delivers excellent mileage performance, traction, road handling and comfort.”

The new 385/65 R 22.5 Michelin X Line Energy F has been rated ‘B’ for fuel efficiency, ‘B’ for wet grip and rated at 69dB for external noise under European tyre labelling legislation.
