Cajetan Nagua from DR Congo wins Employee of the Year: an “extraordinary man working in truly extraordinary conditions”
Miami, 12 June, 2014 – Millicom (Stockholmsbörsen: MIC), the international telecommunications and media company, announced today Cajetan Nagua, its Regional Director for Tigo in Eastern DR Congo, as its Employee of the Year at the firm’s annual global awards event in Miami.
Cajetan joined Millicom originally in Ghana in 2004. He led the company’s return to the troubled Kivu region of DR Congo following the end of a prolonged military conflict there in July 2013. From Tigo’s base in the city of Goma he and his team added 250,000 new customers there in just three months. The establishment of such normal communications has helped normalise the situation after the hostilities. The company also offered free calls for local people to call emergency services.
Millicom employs over 11,000 people in its operations in fifteen countries in Africa and Latin America. Other winners, each called a “Millicommander”, were awarded to employees in six categories:
Innovation – Claudia Landivar, Bolivia
Creative – Jonas Lundqvist, HQ Cable team
Finance – Obedi Laiser, Tanzania
Leadership – Angela Gonzales, Colombia
Sales – Joaquin Orellana, Colombia
Best Sales team – Kobby Adams, Ghana
The winners were awarded an extra month’s salary and the opportunity to be nominated for a space flight, should the company’s business goals be achieved in the next few years. This ultimate award reflects the “Reach for the Stars” ambition of the company.
