Distinguished Finnish emissary and public influencer joins community of leaders advancing a more just, equitable future of work for the world’s working poor

Kristiina Helenius, former Finnish Journalist and CEO of the International Sanctions and Export Control Society, received unanimous support to join the Global Fairness Initiative (GFI) Board, serving with Kenya’s Rose Omamo as GFI’s newest Directors.  Ms. Helenius joins GFI on the 20th anniversary of its founding by Karen Tramontano and Former GFI Board Chair William Jefferson Clinton.

“We are thrilled Kristiina has joined our exceptional Board at this critical time for GFI and the international development community,” said GFI Founder, Karen Tramontano. “She has a deep understanding of the social and economic systems that influence the future of workers in this new economic landscape. She gets what we do, and we will lean on her leadership.”

Ms. Helenius brings to GFI a powerful global business network cultivated through extensive work with the private sector, including as head of the US Chamber of Commerce in Finland and as CEO of Miltton US.  She has also developed exceptional media expertise, having served as a communication strategist, public spokesperson, and the first woman appointed chief correspondent at Yleisradio, Finland's national public broadcasting company. Throughout her career, Kristiina has brought together multiple stakeholder to strengthen the dialogue between the public and private sector, the media and the issues and ideas that define today’s international diplomatic and development agenda.

"We are so fortunate to have Kristiina as part of this important organization, "said HE Kabine Komara, former Prime Minister of Guinea and GFI Board Chair. “She brings deep experience and a unique perspective on the humanitarian and social justice issues at the center of GFI's work. I am honored to have her as a colleague on this distinguished Board.”

The Global Fairness Initiative is an international NGO that works to create a more equitable, sustainable approach to economic development, and to make our global economy work for vulnerable communities and the world’s working poor. For twenty years GFI has built a record of success through innovative programs to reduce poverty, enfranchise informal communities, advance human rights, and create secur, decent livelihoods for the world’s working poor.
