Welcome to Habitare!
Habitare, the largest furniture, interior decoration and design fair in Finland, will take place from 18 to 22 September 2013 at the Helsinki Exhibition and Convention Centre.
We hope that you will join us at the Habitare Press event being held September 18, 2013 at 12:00 at the Helsinki Exhibition and Convention Centre, room 201, in Helsinki, Finland. Lunch buffet is served.
The Press Centre is situated on the first floor, near the Exhibition & Convention Centre’s Southern Entrance. You can obtain accreditation for fairs and exhibitions upon arriving at the Press Centre or in advance on the internet: www.finnexpo.fi/akkreditoituminen
The Habitare furniture, interior decoration and design fair is organised annually and offers a group of events for the interior design and function of homes and public spaces. In conjunction with Habitare, the Helsinki Exhibition and Convention Centre will host the ValoLight lighting event, the ArtHelsinki contemporary art fair and the Salon antique fair.
Habitare’s Trash Design goes architectural
A staple part of the Habitare fair, the Trash Design special exhibition will continue in the footsteps of its popular Trash Home and Trash Hotel concepts. This year, Trash Design will exhibit architecture. Based on architects’ sketches, the wooden parts of the World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 pavilion that served as an outdoor living room for 105 days will be reused to create “picnic greenhouses”, garden pavilions, bridges and even benches.
The special exhibition will be produced by the curator Isa Kukkapuro-Enbom and the trash designer Henrik Enbom. “According to the trash design concept, the raw materials are recycled or reused. The recycling of wood materials is a traditional way of reusing old buildings, so the rebirth of the pavilion as new structures is a continuation of a long tradition,” says Isa Kukkapuro-Enbom.
ArtHelsinki offers premium contemporary art at Habitare
Now organized for the sixth time, ArtHelsinki will bring contemporary art to the Habitare fair and offers the public a wide and exciting display of contemporary art and an opportunity to purchase art on the spot. ArtHelsinki is one of the most important and international art events in Finland. Several contemporary art galleries from Finland and abroad will participate in the event.
On show will be art in a variety of forms, including paintings, prints, sculptures, and video and media works. The event will also feature an area dedicated to applied art and handicrafts. Visitors will have the chance to explore the magnificent array of works and purchase art to take home.
The Salon sales exhibition introduces antiques, vintage items and old art
Held for the third time, the Salon sales exhibition will offer a new dimension to interior decoration. Salon will introduce antiques, objets d’art and art from various decades, as well as high-quality vintage items and furniture from Finland and abroad. The sales exhibition offers visitors a chance to shop for items to take home directly. In addition, the event will include workshops and offer interesting perspectives on antique items.
The partner of the event, the Finnish Antique Dealers Association, will present the fascinating possibilities of antiques, as a complement to Habitare’s contemporary interior design offering. “Genuine antiques add spice to contemporary interior design, but they can also be thought-provoking and introduce depth and meaning to our environment,” says Jyrki Lammi, a member of the Salon exhibition committee from J. Lammi Antiques.
ValoLight to light up the fair
The ValoLight lighting event will be organised for the fourth time, offering lighting products and solutions for public spaces, general lighting, homes and interiors; light fittings and other sources of light; outdoor lighting products and solutions; and lighting supplies.
This year’s ValoLight programme will include segments for professionals, particularly on the opening day of the fair, 18 September. Featured will be a lighting forum, organised by the Illuminating Engineering Society of Finland, and the announcement of results and awards for the Best Lighting Competition. In addition, the ValoLight event will offer plenty of information on new lighting products and trends for visitors who are interested in domestic and interior design lighting.
Avaava to host the Creative Space accessibility event in the Ahead! design area
Avaava, a company offering holistic concepts in accessibility for building professionals and constructors, encourages the audience to think about accessibility and the possibilities of design at Creative Space, an accessibility event to be held in the Ahead! area at the Habitare fair. Today, accessibility is more current than ever, also in interior design. The driving force is the growing number of older people, for whom accessibility is a precondition for a functioning living environment and an independent life. It is important to better recognise the needs of older people and to address their concerns early on, as part of design and product development.

Four Dream Space designs to move on to the final of the Habitare Design Competition
Four designs have been chosen for the final stage of the Habitare Design Competition. The brief of the competition was to design a Dream Space that would appeal to all the senses, encourage people to dream of a better world and be suited for placement in a public interior space. The competition has remained very popular from year to year.
A total of 96 entries were submitted for this year’s Habitare Design Competition. The panel of judges were pleased with the high quality of entries submitted under a pseudonym in the first phase of the competition, and four designs were chosen for the final instead of three, as was originally stated. All finalists study at the Aalto University.
