Mimer Information Technology Joins Symbian Platinum Program Uppsala, Sweden - 30 March 2004 - Mimer Information Technology AB announced today that it has joined the Symbian Platinum Program to support the growing market for smartphones based on Symbian OS(TM). As a Platinum Partner, Mimer Information Technology is extending its Mimer SQL Mobile database technology to the Symbian ecosystem. Symbian develops and licenses Symbian OS, the global industry standard operating system for smartphones, to the world's leading handset manufacturers, which account for over 85 per cent of annual mobile phone sales worldwide. "This partnership reflects our commitment to the database management market and our intent to build upon our mobile strategy," said Magnus Hedencrona, CEO, Mimer Information Technology. "By becoming a Symbian Platinum Partner, we can further expand our mobile database solutions and strengthen our relationships with users, application developers, phone manufacturers and network operators." "As the number of mobilephones based on Symbian OS is increasing rapidly Mimer Information Technology has great opportunities for the Mimer SQL Mobile database technology to contribute to the value of current models and those in the pipeline. The open standards of Symbian OS provide an immense potential for us to deliver to a released smartphone today, and be easily incorporated in a subsequent new smartphone tomorrow - from many different manufacturers and geographies." By extending the Mimer SQL product family of zero maintenance and 100% standard DBMS products to include support for mobile devices running on Symbian OS, Mimer Information Technology offers developers of mobile applications a complete DBMS solution otherwise only available for server platforms. Mimer SQL Mobile for Symbian OS is a full-fledged DBMS system including multi-user database access, security, compression and full SQL support. This, together with the Mimer J2ME Client technology, will make it possible to create advanced mobile solutions with a shorter time to market, thus encouraging application developers to focus on using Symbian OS platforms for their mobile solutions. "Efficient data storage has become a fundamental requirement for today's smartphones," said Ian Weston, Vice President of Partner Support, Symbian. "We are pleased to have Mimer Information Technology join the Symbian Platinum Program and bring its Mimer SQL Mobile database technology to the Symbian ecosystem." - Ends - Notes to Editors About the Symbian Platinum Program The Symbian Platinum Program includes companies that have a technology or strategic position that is key to the success of mobile computing technology surrounding Symbian OS.
