Mind wins contest at Impact00 fair For the second year in a row, Mind participated in and won a contest that was held during Impact00, an Internet fair in Gothenburg, Sweden. Erik Zingmark from Mind and Jens Hellqvist from DaCapo developed a website for Gothenburg's Memorial Fund; the jury liked their work and declared them the winners. Contest participants were charged with producing a website for Gothenburg's Memorial Fund. The city of Gothenburg, its postal service, and the University of Gothenburg started the fund directly after a catastrophic fire in Gothenburg on November 29, 1998. The contest required that the page projected dignity so as not to offend the victims' families and friends. IMProve is a contest in which interactive media producers in western Sweden compete with and against each other. None of the 10 participants knew beforehand who would work with whom; five teams were put together via a lottery. Among other things, the contest's purpose is to show the IT industry's ability to cooperate across borders and to take a stand on important social issues. Erik Zingmark and Jens Hellqvist had to create a website with a design that did not overshadow the message. Instead, the site had to encourage interaction. Compared to other creative teams, they chose to concentrate the content around a theme called Ideas. "We wanted to bring forth people's ideas because the Fund supports projects that are charged with increasing integration among people," says Zingmark. "Besides giving people opportunities to easily apply for grants online, Jens and I also created the Inspiration Bank so that anyone who has a good idea should be able to share it with others via the website. Perhaps not all people are prepared to implement their ideas, but through the Bank, someone else can take them further." With this concept, the Memorial Fund's website was created. It won the contest thanks to "the site being permeated with an encouraging, inspiring, and outgoing tone ..." and ". a feeling that all initiatives for supporting the Fund's purpose and operations are welcome."
