RFID cards form part of a new air travel service concept MIOTEC SUPPLIES FINNAIR WITH CARDS FOR THE MultiFLYe SERVICE PRODUCT Miotec supplies Finnair with contactless cards that form part of the Finnair electronic travel service concept. Together with an electronic flight ticket, a contactless card offers a fast and pleasant way of passing through airports. Finnair is broadening its electronic travel service concept of MultiFLYe contract clients by introducing contactless cards supplied by Miotec. The cards are designed to speed up boarding an will be used on domestic flights. The passenger goes through an automatic eGate with the contactless card in his pocket. The gate identifies the card and transmits the information to the check-in system. The passenger information is updated, the gate opens and the passenger can board the plane. "MultiFLYe is an electronic service package planned for companies. eGate and Miotec's RFID cards are the perfect combination at airports, says Matti Alanne, Director, Business Solutions, of Finnair. Miotec's core competence lies in combining card technologies and RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology. Miotec will supply the cards and some of the security technology and security features for the project. Miotec's partner, SysOpen Oyj, is integrating the gate solution into the background system. The gates are being supplied by Ideos Oy. Earlier this spring, SysOpen eGate solution won the private sector prize in the WITSA Global IT Excellence Awards. According to Miotec's CEO Timo Friman, the Finnair card project is one of the first solutions in the world that incorporates a genuinely ticketless service. "This is the first volume application using I-Code technology. I-Code has proved to be a practical and cost-efficient technology for projects as extensive as this one."
