Miotec smart cards for banking in Europe MIOTEC SUPPLIES ORGANIZATION CARDS TO BANQUE DE LUXEMBOURG Information security company Miotec will supply Banque de Luxembourg with organization cards, in cooperation with Utimaco Safeware. The multi- functional hybrid cards' biometrics and PKI technology will enhance the bank's information security, while RFID technology will enable access control. The Banque de Luxembourg order is a strategic opening for the introduction of Miotec's cards in banking, where stringent information security is a necessity. The customer had five main goals: the solution had to enhance security in system connections, be user-friendly for easy adoption, cover the main systems of the bank, be compatible with the bank's security standards, and offer good product support. "The user now has a unique card for accessing bank buildings and parking, using time- management system and the bank's lifts, paying in the bank's restaurant and accessing workstations and IT systems," explains René Chevremont from Banque de Luxembourg. The solution uses Precise Biometrics combined fingerprint and smart card readers. The Miotec Hybrid card includes Precise Match-On-Cardtm functionality, which means that the fingerprint is not only stored but also matched and verified in the secure environment of the smart card, instead of in a less secure computer. The solution is integrated, furnished and supported by Utimaco Safeware Belgium. Earlier this spring, Miotec and Utimaco Safeware signed a frame agreement involving sales, marketing and product development co- operation. The card delivery to Banque de Luxembourg is the collaboration's first customer solution for a bank. "The co-operation with Miotec and Precise Biometrics is a powerful proof of our leadership in user-friendly security solutions. Together we are able to take advantage of tremendous growth opportunities in the field of biometrics," states Rolf Wassermann from Utimaco Safeware.
