Oklahoma Higher Ed campuses reaping the benefits of local terrorism prevention training

Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism roles out Information Collection Courses to campuses

(Oklahoma City, Okla.) The Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism (MIPT) and the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education partnered to provide training in techniques of effective collection to campus law enforcement and surrounding departments in Oklahoma.

The Information Collection on Patrol (InCOP) training courses were delivered at four different higher education facilities across the state during the months of September and October 2012.

“Partnering with the Oklahoma Regents was an incredible opportunity to increase the safety of the state’s higher education campuses as well as the communities,” stated David Cid, MIPT’s Executive Director. “Chancellor Glen Johnson must be commended for his forward thinking and the value he places on campus safety.”

“We appreciate the opportunity provided by MIPT for our colleges and universities to provide their law enforcement team with state of the art training. The benefit of this training will be safer and more secure campuses across the state of Oklahoma,” said Glen D. Johnson, Chancellor of the Oklahoma State System of Higher Education.

Campuses in Ada, Broken Arrow, Woodward and Lawton hosted the training which was also open to other area law enforcement.  60+ law enforcement agencies, both campus and municipal, participated in the trainings.

The Institute’s InCOP 1 is designed to improve the fundamental and essential skill of information collection for uniformed officers. InCOP 1 concepts are reinforced by the Nationwide Suspicious Activity Reporting (SAR) Initiative (NSI).

Oklahoma’s higher-education law enforcement joins other education institutes, such as the University of Texas System’s Police, as alumni of the Institute’s training program.
