Metro launches a new mobile phone service called Metro Play that initially will offer 80 popular mobile phone games completely free, since they are financed by adverts. The market leading Finnish company, Mobile Advertising Solution, provides the technology for Metro Play.

Metro Play’s free mobile phone games are all financed by advertisers and are completely free for the users, except possible data traffic costs charged by the mobile phone operators. Once the game starts, four ads appear, and after the game is finished, another ad is displayed to the user. ”Metro is an exclusive business partner for us in Sweden, and will be responsible for Metro Play’s marketing and sales, while we deliver the technical platform. It was Metro’s brand, target group and business model that made us choose them as our partner,” says Ilkka Lassila, CEO for Mobile Advertising Solution. Metro Play’s software will identify which phone model that is used, and will only offer downloads that are applicable to the users mobile phone model. The ads, which are downloaded from a server, can be updated and changed daily. ”Metro is the first commercial company to offer a broad mobile phone service for free gaming. We will be able to drive traffic to Metro Play continuously through our physical newspaper, Metro, which is read by active and urban consumers in Sweden’s largest cities.
