The Montgomery College Foundation is pleased to announce the establishment of the Montgomery County Commission for Women (CFW) Endowed STEM Scholarship to support students pursuing careers in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields.

Dr. Debra Bright Harris, president of the Montgomery County Commission for Women and associate dean of student services at Montgomery College, says, “Research shows there is a critical need for more individuals, particularly women and minorities, to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. I am delighted that through this endowed scholarship, the Montgomery County Commission for Women is helping to remove the financial barriers that prevent students from studying these crucial fields.”

The $10,500 endowment, funded by individual gifts, will support current Montgomery College students now and in the future. This fall, eligible students may apply for a $500 scholarship. As the endowment matures, future students will receive scholarship awards through the interest earned on the endowment.

“We are thrilled that the Montgomery County Commission for Women has established a scholarship that will provide for students for years to come. The Commission’s commitment means that scores of students will have the opportunity to realize their educational and career goals,” says Carol Rognrud, executive director of the Montgomery College Foundation.

Montgomery College is home to the nation's largest engineering transfer program. Many students transfer to the University of Maryland, Georgia Tech, and George Washington University. Alumni from the College’s engineering program have continued their post-baccalaureate studies at MIT, Harvard and Emory Universities and other institutions.
