More than 40 Events Planned for Montgomery College Humanities Days

Dr. Ijeoma Otigbuo to Lead Discussion on Implications of the Ebola Crisis

Montgomery College’s Global Humanities Institute and the Paul Peck Humanities Institute at Montgomery College have organized four days of workshops, discussions and performances demonstrating the relevance of humanities to everyday life.

Humanities Days will culminate with a reception and opening for a collaborative international art exhibition at the Cultural Arts Center on the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus at 7 p.m. on October 23. The exhibition, titled Identity: Contemporary Interpretations of History, Place and Culture, features work by faculty at Xian University, China and the University of El Salvador. The exhibition runs through November 14.

Highlights include: a discussion about the implication of the Ebola crisis led Dr. Ijeoma Otigbuo, professor of biology and founder of the Aids Awareness Resource Center, on the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus at 3 p.m. on October 22; and, a demonstration workshop and contest with Ronald Nunn professor of anthropology and archaeology, on how to throw the ancient atlatl, a precursor to the bow and arrow, on the Germantown Campus at 1:30 p.m. on October 21.

Humanities—including history, literature, ethics, language, arts, literature, political science, and more—help promote understanding of people, the world, the human experience and global history of culture and ideas.
