Businesses across Moray are being asked to paint a picture of the state of the regional economy in a new survey commissioned by Moray Chamber of Commerce.

The survey is open to all Moray businesses, and the results will be presented to decision makers at Holyrood and Westminster.

The survey asks businesses to describe their financial performance in 2011, and whether it was better or worse than anticipated. The survey also aims to assess business confidence for the coming year, particularly in the wake of the decision to retain RAF Lossiemouth, and asks firms to spell out their biggest day to day business challenges.

It also asks what steps the Scottish and UK Government should take to make life easier for Moray businesses. There are also questions on the possibility of Moray becoming a centre of excellence for space exploration and research, an idea suggested by the UK Government, and on the importance of access to Heathrow, the UK’s only hub airport.

The results of the survey will be presented at a business summit in Forres next month. The ‘Ambitions for 2012’ conference, organised by Moray Chamber of Commerce, will bring together politicians, business leaders and policy experts, to discuss the future prospects for the Moray economy.

The findings of the survey will also be issued to Scottish Finance Secretary John Swinney MSP and UK Business Secretary Vince Cable MP.

Moray Chamber of Commerce chief executive Lesley Ann Parker said: “We are encouraging businesses across Moray to describe the state of the regional economy in their own words. The results of this survey will paint a picture of the economic performance of businesses in Moray, and of the challenges that many firms face on a day to day basis.

“We hope that Ministers at Holyrood and Westminster will listen very carefully to the conclusions of local businesses. They are, after all, the lifeblood of the Scottish and UK economies, and it is vital that we create the conditions to allow business to flourish.”

There are several ways to take part in the survey.
