New book by Ohio author features timeless stories of fishing Steelhead Alley

Akron, Ohio – August 25, 2011 – From the cold waters of Lake Erie up the rivers and streams of the Midwest, steelhead trout swim the currents in their annual journey to the fishing region known as Steelhead Alley. In MEET ME AT THE NET, author Ed Novak tells of the joys and the challenges – and the sharing with friends and family – of this incredible Great Lakes fishery. Not just another how-to book, but a collection of timeless stories that anglers of all ages will treasure.

Novak, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, specializes in trauma therapy in his professional practice. He has written for and serves on the editorial review board of an international professional journal. It's no surprise that his writing style emphasizes the interpersonal experiences of fishing.

"I especially appreciate his keen understanding and use of human nature," said Bill Monroe, longtime outdoor writer and editor for the Oregonian in the Pacific Northwest. "Ed Novak writes of this in vignette after vignette of life and the human spirit on, in, over – and occasionally under – the stream."

MEET ME AT THE NET: Stories from Steelhead Alley is a collection of stories about Novak, his friends and family, and their times on the water fishing in Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York. He details his introduction to steelhead flyfishing (and his initial shock at the price tags on fly rods), family stories (fishing with his brother and son, and with his wife Laura on Valentine’s Day), and the fun and foibles of his fishing buddies.

But this is not a typical steelhead fishing book. “This is the story of every steelheader's story,” says Craig Lewis of Erie Outfitters in Sheffield Lake, Ohio. “It’s like Ed Novak wrote this book about me and my friends and our time on the water.”

This book is the first to profile the impressive multi-state hatchery-based program that spawned the fishery known as Steelhead Alley in Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York. But it’s not just another where-to-go fishing book, according to Steve Pollick, outdoors editor with The Blade in Toledo, Ohio. “Novak’s easy style is educational,” he says, “without the boring prescriptions of how-to.”

Born and raised in Ohio, Novak’s been fishing since he was three years old. He's now sharing the joys of fishing with friends and family across generations, and anglers of all ages will enjoy this collection of stories. Jerry Dennis, author of A Place on the Water: An Angler’s Reflections on Home, said Novak’s book “is bound to become a classic of mid-American fishing literature.”
