Motors.co.uk hear about committed charity fundraisers and dedicated carers in search for a local hero to win £10,000 towards a car, plus a £2,500 charity donation

Nominations flood in for the Motors.co.uk competition to find the most deserving local hero to be rewarded with the gift of £10,000 towards a car, plus a generous donation to the charity of the winner’s choice.

When leading used car website Motors.co.uk launched their competition to find a local hero, they expected to hear about some special people, but this has exceeded expectations with some exceptional individuals being nominated.

Nominations have come in from all around the country, from Ross-shire in the north-east of Scotland, down to the south-west of the country, in Cornwall.

Only a week into the search, the Motors.co.uk team have been overwhelmed by the stories being shared. Phill Jones, commercial director at Motors.co.uk, said: “It is going to be very difficult to put together a shortlist as we are learning about some truly remarkable people.”

There’s still a month to nominate a special person to win £10,000 towards a car from www.motors.co.uk, plus £2,500 to their chosen charity, so Motors request that you get behind your local heroes – keep sending in the nominations and make sure your friends and family join in.

Nominations received so far include: -
Linza Corp from Wisbech, in Cambridgeshire. Linza runs her own charity Families Against Neuroblastoma (
http://www.familiesagainstneuroblastoma.org/) and is described as “always working non-stop”.

Dave Holby-Wolinski is well-known to Breakthrough for Breast Cancer (http://www.breakthrough.org.uk/) and to the people of Basingstoke. A committed fundraiser, Dave’s nominator says: “A kind-hearted man who spent 3 years on a rowing machine in our local town centre braving all weather to raise money for Breast Cancer.”

As well as people who have already made names for themselves with their outstanding charity work, the nominees also include a lot of unsung heroes, people who support friends, family members and neighbours in need, with no reward and little acknowledgement of their efforts.

Many nominees work with children with serious illnesses and it is coming clear from the nominees that there are a lot of unofficial carers across the UK provided essential support to people with long-term illnesses, or just less well off than themselves.

For example, Jonathan Kellar from Glasgow has been nominated by his wife Rhoda who says: “He is my rock and without him I quite simply couldn't exist.” This is typical of the heartfelt reasons for nominating that Motors.co.uk have been receiving.
