Female Celebrities can’t escape eye-watering insurance bills

On the 21st December this year, women will no longer be able to take advantage of cheaper insurance rates, due to the new EU gender directive. The average rise of car insurance premiums will be £500 for females, but what does this mean to the likes of celebrities who drive higher value cars than the rest of us, at a much younger age?

Research from used car advertising website Motors.co.uk reveals the extent to which these celebs will be penalised when car insurance premiums rise this December. Looking at ten high profile women and the cars they drive, some of the figures are hard to stomach for those of us who fall under the ‘average’ bracket.

Tamara Ecclestone is set to be served with a hefty new bill of over £6,700 more per year. X Factor judge Tulisa will also be penalised for driving a £100k car, seeing her premium rise by £4800 per year. By contrast, sensible mum-to-be Kate Middleton who drives an Audi A3 will have an £800 yearly rise. But is this set to become higher as they trade in for a family estate?

WAG’s top the charts when it comes to the extravagant cars their other halves buy them, Danielle Lloyd’s Bentley will mean a rise of over £5000 per year. Whilst pop stars give them a run for their money in top spec Range Rover’s like Cheryl Cole. Kudos goes to supermodel Kate Moss, who drives a modest yet cool vintage Rolls Royce, meaning very low insurance rates to begin with. She will only receive a rise of around £300 per year.

Stephen Jury, Marketing Manager at Motors.co.uk comments: “Along with revealing the astronomical bills these celebrities will receive after the December change in law, we’d like to suggest a much more cost effective alternative for young drivers such as Tulisa to consider. To nip back and forth to the studio and her new Beau’s pad, a Smart Car would be just the ticket to ride. This would also work for her counterpart Britney Spears in the US X Factor who has been spotted driving hers in LA”

Motors.co.uk advises women to choose a car in the three lowest insurance groups, to save them from being penalised further. A small engine, 1.2 or less, will mean lower bills for both insurance and petrol.
