Mott MacDonald has been appointed as technical advisor by NHS Dumfries and Galloway on the Acute Services Redevelopment Project, which will see the replacement of the Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary with a new hospital.

This project will provide a major opportunity to review the way in which clinical services are delivered across the region. The new, purpose built hospital facility will allow for efficient delivery of services and future changes in clinical practice, as well as providing 100% single room accommodation. It is being delivered using the Non Profit Distributing (NPD) model and will be one of the biggest NPD project delivered to date as well as the largest project ever undertaken by NHS Dumfries & Galloway.

Mott MacDonald will be responsible for providing technical and procurement advisory services throughout the project development and procurement stages, including architectural, healthcare planning, engineering, facilities management, environmental, cost consultancy and other construction related services.  Support will come from Keppie Design and Iain Buchan Associates who will provide architectural and healthcare planning services respectively.

This appointment further enhances Mott MacDonald’s leading position in delivering healthcare technical services in Scotland, a portfolio which includes a similar role on the Royal Hospital for Sick Children and Clinical Neurosciences NPD Project for NHS Lothian.

Richard Cantlay, Mott MacDonald’s project director, said: “We are delighted to be involved in this exciting and highly significant project and look forward to working with NHS Dumfries & Galloway to deliver a first class healthcare facility benefiting the local population.”

Graham McCorkindale, Keppie’s strand lead for Health and Wellbeing, added: "We are excited about creating the exemplar design for the new hospital and look forward to infusing the proposals with UK and International best practise and innovation."
