Mott MacDonald appointed consultant on €16 million Cork Science and Innovation Park, Republic of Ireland
Mott MacDonald has been appointed by Cork County Council to provide consultancy services for the delivery of the €16 million infrastructure package aspect of the Cork Science and Innovation Park (CSIP) in the Republic of Ireland.
Located on a greenfield site in the western suburbs of Cork between Bishopstown and Ballincollig, the construction of infrastructure is considered to be a key driver in the park’s overall development. This will include a new 2km access road, two new road bridges and pedestrian bridge, a 7.5 hectare floodwater attenuation pond as well as services, utilities and accommodation works. Provisions for high quality public transport facilities, including a possible future Bus Rapid Transit system, will also be incorporated into the CSIP infrastructure masterplan.
Mott MacDonald will provide full consultancy services on the project including route corridor selection reports, environmental impact and traffic assessments, preliminary design works, tender document preparation and assessment and construction monitoring leading to eventual handover.
John Murphy, the consultancy’s project director, said: “The CSIP is set within the context of the strategic development of Cork. Therefore, in association with parallel national and regional initiatives, the CSIP can provide all the required characteristics of a high quality strategic employment location targeted at the innovation sector. The CSIP will be showcased at the competitive International Research and Development Market, where research and technology orientated companies will be invited to invest and develop operations on site.”
The infrastructure package of the CSIP project is due to be completed in 2016.
