Mott MacDonald appoints Andy Thomas as head of rail operations
Mott MacDonald has appointed Andy Thomas as its head of rail operations to enhance and grow the consultancy’s service offering in this area.
Andy is a professional and strategic transport operator and has worked in the rail industry for over 33 years. Most recently he was a senior programme manager at Network Rail where he was responsible for leading a team of operational, timetabling, commercial and system engineering specialists. Prior to this, Andy was operations and safety director for Central Trains and London Midland and was accountable for the operational strategy, which included safety, performance, service improvements and customer satisfaction. Andy has also held various senior positions at ScotRail including customer services manager, train crew manager and divisional operations manager where he was responsible for the whole Scottish operational network outside of Strathclyde.
Robert Gray, Mott MacDonald’s rail director, comments: “Andy has a strong track record in railway operations and until recently was involved in Crossrail and Reading station area redevelopment. Throughout his career he has delivered projects that have improved train, safety and organisational performance. Andy will ensure Mott MacDonald is strategically placed to respond to our customers’ needs as technology and operational requirements change in response to the growth in UK rail.”
