Mott MacDonald appoints environmental management services and town planning portfolio leader
Mott MacDonald has appointed Niall McNevin as leader of its environmental management services and town planning portfolio. Niall will be responsible for the development of the consultancy’s environmental management services, overseeing town planning and heritage services.
Niall is an award-winning town planner and chartered surveyor, with a prestigious background in UK development planning and sustainable development. For the past 10 years Niall worked within the Olympic and Legacy delivery teams. His most recent role was as director of town planning and sustainability within the Olympic Park Legacy Company – now known as the London Legacy Development Corporation – where he led the development of the former Olympic Park to create a sustainable metropolitan quarter of approximately 7,000 homes. Prior to this, Niall was the head of town planning and regeneration at the Olympic Delivery Authority, where he was responsible for securing planning permissions for the sustainable remediation of the land and construction of the multi-million pound venues, parklands and infrastructure for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Before his work on the Games, he held senior management positions at Land Securities and Blue Circle Industries.
Commenting on his appointment, Niall said: “There is currently a growing optimism within the industry, with the streamlining and expected growth in infrastructure investment, residential development, mixed-use developments, energy developments and plan making activity at district and neighbourhood level. There are also several important legislative changes to consider, such as the Localism Act and Community Infrastructure Levy, as well as increased stakeholder engagement. Mott MacDonald is perfectly positioned to help its clients manage change and achieve their business objectives. Having experienced working on the client side of major organisations, I know this is an area in which clients value professional and trusted advice.”
Ian Allison, manager of Mott MacDonald’s environment division, said: “Niall is a great addition to Mott MacDonald’s environment business. He has made a major contribution to the UK and international planning scene and has played a key role in various high profile and intellectually demanding town and environmental planning programmes.”
