Mott MacDonald appoints Mike Haigh to Group board
Mott MacDonald has appointed Mike Haigh to its Group board. Mike is currently responsible for the consultancy’s business throughout the Middle East and South Asia (MESA) region, covering all of the Group’s sectors and services.
Mike joined Mott MacDonald over 30 years ago after completing his degree in civil engineering at the University of Leeds. He has a strong background in the general management, planning and implementation of large infrastructure projects, with particular expertise in the water sector. Since 2011, Mike has been managing director of Mott MacDonald’s MESA region, which has over 3,500 staff and total revenue in excess of £150 million.
Prior to this, Mike was a director in Mott MacDonald’s water and environment team and manager of the consultancy’s water division where he was instrumental in developing relationships with partners and clients to create integrated delivery teams. Mike’s commitment to working collaboratively in the industry was demonstrated by his roles as a member of the delivery boards for Anglian Water Special Projects, Severn Trent One Supply Chain and the Thames Water GBM (Galliford Try, Biwater Treatment and Mott MacDonald) joint venture. Mike was also a director of Mott MacDonald Bentley, the multi-award winning integrated joint-venture between Mott MacDonald and contractor JN Bentley Ltd.
Mike’s commitment to the profession has been demonstrated by a wide range of activities with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), Royal Academy of Engineering and Engineers Against Poverty. Most recently Mike was on the Steering Group for Global Water Security – an engineering perspective; a joint initiative from the Royal Academy of Engineering, ICE and the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management.
Commenting, Mike Haigh said: “Mott MacDonald has a strong presence in the Middle East and South Asia and has been part of key landmark infrastructure developments across the region; we have a unique position with our network of local presence supported by regional and global expertise which puts us in an excellent position to take advantage of these strong markets. With Mott MacDonald about to celebrate its 50th anniversary in the United Arab Emirates, the consultancy is perfectly placed to take advantage of the increasing number of opportunities in the region.”
Mike is a fellow of the ICE and a member of the Institution of Water and Environmental Management. He has published a number of technical papers on issues including irrigation, drainage and flood control.
