Mott MacDonald designing mixed-use development in Guilin, China

Mott MacDonald is designing a 145,000m² mixed use development in Guilin, Guang Xi Province, China. The development, for Guilin DiHao Properties Development Ltd – part of the Hua Yang Nian Properties Development Group – is worth CNY 2.5 billion (£237 million).

The Guilin Hua Yang Cheng development comprises a 70,000m² luxury shopping mall, a 15,000m² Wal-Mart supermarket, a 30,000m² 5-star Sheraton hotel and 30,000m² of serviced apartments. It will also include a cinema and dedicated area for sports facilities and will be the first high class mixed-use development in the city of Guilin.

Mott MacDonald, a leading global management, engineering and development consultancy is providing mechanical, engineering and plumbing design and consultancy services for the conceptual, preliminary design and tender stages of the project. The consultancy will also review the construction plans as they are developed.

Project director Philip Chan said: “Mott MacDonald is delighted to be involved in this high-profile project, which will bring Guilin in line with other Chinese cities in providing high quality, mixed-use developments.”

“This is the first large scale project in China which will utilise the skills and expertise of both our Hong Kong and Shanghai offices for delivery of the design documentation. We see that this collaboration will be further developed for other major building opportunities in China,” Philip added.

Mott MacDonald’s commission on the project is due for completion in the third quarter of 2012, while the development is due to be opened by the end of 2013.
