Goal.com Poll: Almost 90% of Football Fans Play The Game Themselves
(London, UK) A survey conducted by Goal.com, the world’s largest new media football company, has revealed that almost 90% of fans around the world play the game themselves. When asked the question, 'Do you play football?', 55.5% of users answered ‘Yes, often’ whilst 34.23% of users answered ‘Yes, sometimes’, demonstrating that a large majority of fans also play the game in the hope of emulating their favourite players. Interestingly, USA had the highest number of proactive fans, with 93.58% of users stating that they do play either often or occasionally, closely followed by 93.51 % of fans in Indonesia. Germany came third, with 92.02% of users to Goal.com Germany stating that they did play in some capacity, whilst Goal.com Japan saw the lowest number of proactive followers with 85.32% of users stating that they play. For fans of fellow World Cup hopefuls England, Italy and France, there may be cause for concern given that their nations featured lower down the list, suggesting that their rivals may be getting a head start as they look to nurture the next line of Wayne Rooneys, Francesco Tottis and Franck Riberys. However, overall the poll offered positive results given the high-level of participation, and it will be the first in a series of questions that will be pitched to a world audience using Goal.com’s 21 editions. As the world’s largest community for football fans, Goal.com is uniquely placed to gauge a global audience on issues relating to the most popular sport on earth. Goal.com Chief Content Officer, Michael Simpson, said: “What this poll demonstrates is that football is still open to anyone and everyone, with a large majority of fans actively playing the game too. “That sets football aside from other sports which are less accessible to those that follow them.” Top 10 most pro-active football followers (those that answered 'Yes, often' or 'Yes, sometimes'): 1.
