Munters Cools ABB Gas Turbines for Power Plants in the USA Munters announces the sale of Gas Turbine Inlet Coolers to ABB, for Power Plants in Texas and Massachusetts, USA. The order is a result of Munters increased focus on the gas turbine market. The ABB order is for seven equal units that will decrease the intake-air temperature of ABB's gas turbine model GT24. Munters will manufacture the inlet coolers through April 2000. The order value is SEK 12 million. "This order is one in a series of orders for ABB's gas turbine GT24. Munters has already delivered 15 units for this model of gas turbine", says Wulf Kraneis, Sales Manager at Munters HumiCool Europe. The market for gas turbines has a strong growth, especially in the USA. Deregulation of the domestic US electric power generation and distribution industry, combined with great need for electric power puts pressure on the power plants to produce power more efficiently. The output and efficiency of a gas turbine is strongly dependent on the temperature of the induction air. By installing Munters' evaporative cooling systems it is possible to reduce fuel consumption and increase the power output of this gas turbine by as much as 10 percent. Evaporative Cooling is a natural, environmentally friendly and very cost-efficient method for cooling the intake-air of gas turbines. "We have increased our focus on the gas turbine market in 1999 and will continue to do so in 2000. We are pleased to see that our efforts are successful", says Lennart Evrell, CEO Munters.
