Munters receives evaporative cooling order from McGuffy Systems Munters announces the sale of 80 TURBIdek evaporative cooling systems to McGuffy Systems,Texas. The systems will be installed onto Pratt & Whitney gas turbines. Munters' TURBIdek system will increase output levels and improve thermal efficiency of the gas turbines. McGuffy Systems manufactures inlet air filter houses, a key component of gas turbines used in the power generation industry. The company was awarded a contract from Pratt & Whitney, manufacturers of gas turbines, to build 40 inlet air houses for its gas turbines. Each of these 40 inlet air houses will be fitted with two TURBIdek evaporative coolers from Munters, at a total value of SEK 12 million. "The TURBIdek system will increase turbine power output and efficiency. By teaming with Munters and McGuffy, Pratt & Whitney can quickly facilitate industry demand for optimum turbine performance", says Larry Klekar, Systems Manager at Munters in the USA. The output and efficiency of a gas turbine is dependent on the temperature of the induction air. By installing Munters' evaporative cooling systems it is possible to increase power output of these gas turbines by as much as 15 percent. Evaporative cooling is a natural, environmentally friendly and very cost-effective method for cooling the intake-air of gas turbines. "The market for gas turbines is a strong growth, particularly in the USA. Deregulation of the US electric power generation and distribution industry, combined with a growing need for electric power has pressured electric power producers to generate power more efficiently. We have increased our focus on this market and are pleased to see that our efforts are successful", says Mike McDonald, President and CEO of Munters Americas.
