Micronic Celebrates 100th Global System Installation and 10th Anniversary of Doing Business in Japan Taby, Sweden - September 29, 2004 - Micronic Laser Systems AB (Stockholmsborsen's Attract 40: MICR) today will mark two major milestones by holding a customer event, the Micronic Hyaku Seminar, at the Swedish embassy in Tokyo. The event will simultaneously celebrate the installation of Micronic's 100th system and the company's 10th anniversary of doing business in Japan. Installation of the 100th system, a latest-generation pattern generator for TFT photomask writing, is coincidentally taking place at a Japanese customer this month. "It is only fitting that our 100th system installation should take place in Japan," said Sven Lofquist, Micronic president and CEO. "We consider Japan to be our 'home market,' accounting for more than 50 percent of the total number of Micronic system shipments. We are quite proud of the relationships that we have established with Japanese companies over the past 10 years, and we look forward to doing business in this market for many years to come." Japan remains the largest market for Micronic's line of laser tools, which includes the LRS and MP laser pattern generators for display, packaging and multi-purpose applications, the Sigma and Omega semiconductor photomask writers, and the MMS photomask metrology system. Japanese customers accounted for 59 percent of Micronic's net 2003 sales. Earlier this year Micronic ceased working through a Japanese distributor, assuming full and direct sales responsibility in Japan. The Micronic Hyaku Seminar, named after the Japanese word for 100, will feature a distinguished panel of guest speakers from the display and semiconductor community. The event will highlight the latest information about Micronic's laser pattern generation technologies for semiconductor, display and packaging photomask writing.
