Taby, Sweden, February 11, 2005 - Micronic Laser Systems AB (Stockholm Exchange's "Attract 40 list": MICR) today presented the Group's Quarterly Report for October 1 - December 31, 2004 and Year-end Report for January 1 - December 31, 2004.

* Order intake during 2004 amounted to SEK 945 (1,086) million, of which SEK 206 (497) million was booked in the fourth quarter. * Net sales during 2004 reached an all-time high of SEK 839 (428) million, of which SEK 422 (190) million was generated in the fourth quarter. * Profit after financial items during 2004 amounted to SEK 122 (-194) million, of which SEK 94 (-93) million relates to the fourth quarter. * The 2004 net result amounted to SEK 110 (-159) million, equal to SEK 2.80 (-5.59) per share. The fourth quarter net result amounted to SEK 92 (-85) million, or SEK 2.34 (-2.18) per share. * The order backlog at year-end was SEK 794 (764) million, including systems scheduled to ship during 2005. "I am pleased to report an excellent fourth quarter and a year in which we succeeded in meeting our ambitious goals. 2004 turned out to a record year in many respects as we doubled our sales year-on-year and surpassed the record sales in 2000 by almost 20 percent. These earnings enabled us to reach our key financial objective, an operating margin of 15 percent. Order intake remained high and we have a strong order backlog for 2005. We also achieved a gross margin of 56 percent, which is impressive in view of the weakened US dollar", says Sven Lofquist, President and CEO of Micronic Laser Systems AB. "Our portfolio of high performance products meets the most demanding customer requirements. This is reflected in an ongoing decrease in our research and development expenditure. However, starting in the fourth quarter of 2004, our reported costs will exceed actual expenditure now that we have started to amortize capitalized development costs for the Sigma product," says Sven Lofquist and adds: "2005 has the potential to be an even better year, with increasing sales and a high pace in shipping systems already from the beginning of the year. We also expect the order intake for the first six months 2005 to be in line with the order intake during the same period last year."
