The strong order intake continues for Micronic Taby, Sweden - January 26, 2004 - Micronic Laser Systems AB (Stockholmsborsen's Attract 40: MICR), a leading manufacturer of laser pattern generation equipment to the display and semiconductor industries, today announced that as a result of the strong growth within the TFT-LCD market, a customer in Asia has placed yet another substantial order for an LRS11000 series pattern generator. The system is expected to ship during the first quarter of 2005. "Overall, the market for LCDs is strong; our customers continue to invest in advanced equipment," said Sven Löfquist, President and CEO of Micronic Laser Systems AB. "The flat panel display market grew last year by almost 40 percent to USD 40 billion and is expected to grow at an annual rate of 20 percent until 2006 according to DisplaySearch." LCD (Liquid Crystal Displays) is the most common technology for flat panel displays.There are two technologies, passive and active LCD. The TFT-LCD is an active LCD providing better image quality and faster response than a passive LCD. The active LCDs have a Thin Film Transistor (TFT) in each pixel.
