If you're looking to redecorate your home and give it a more country-style theme, you've come to the right place. Interior designer Ryan McDonough at MyJobQuote.co.uk has teamed up with several experts to create this list of tips on how to create a country-style home.

Choose The Right Colours

When creating a country-style home, you don’t necessarily need to stick to a neutral colour palette. However, according to interior designer Beth Martin at Beth R Martin Design, the hues should be softer and less saturated. "Buttery yellows, robin egg blue, sage green, and dusty reds all work beautifully with this type of home décor”, says Martin.

Consider incorporating a range of soft and neutral colours. You can add colour to the walls, accents, flooring, and more. It's also a good idea to add a few plants in each room to add some additional colour.

Nature-inspired colours also work very well in a country-style home. Choose calming neutrals and soothing shades such as sage, green, rich terracotta, and earthy browns. Switch up your current décor to a more calming, rural colour palette.

Add Some Traditional Farmhouse Features

There are many traditional farmhouse features that you can add to your home to give it that rustic, country theme. Rolltop baths, traditional-style ovens, hanging copper pots and marble countertops are all examples of things that are common in country-style homes.

If you don’t want to spend a lot of money on renovating your home with new appliances or big changes, there are some smaller things you can do to incorporate farmhouse features. For example, consider putting up some rustic floating shelves. Hang a pot rack in your kitchen for a rustic-style storage solution.

A low-hanging pendant light over a rustic dining table can help to add a soft glow to your dining room. This can be a great finishing touch.

Use Natural Wood and Rustic Materials

According to Paul Corazza, executive director at Independent Property Group, the key to achieving a country-style home is using lots of natural materials. These will assist in introducing more of the organic, outdoorsy vibe that characterises the entire country home style.

Due to their effectiveness in this type of home, exposed wooden beams, wood panelling, and original hardwood floorboards should always be highlighted”, says Corazza. “Barn-style doors are another excellent method to leave a lasting impression.”

Andre Kazimierski, CEO at Improovy, agrees; “Wood floors and furniture help add some of this style's signature warmth and rustic look, and they also go perfectly with the bold, clean white that you'll often find in country-style houses.”

Play With Craft Finishes

When adding a country theme to your home, consider incorporating authentic craft elements into your home. This can include things such as solid wood furniture and washed wood finishes.

Reclaimed and recycled wood are great options for furniture choices in country-style homes. The more rustic the pieces, the better. Recycled and reclaimed woods will have their own unique finishes and will add a lot of character to your home.

When you choose real wood pieces, you can count on them being durable and hardwearing, so your new furniture investment will be sure to pay off.

Bring The Outside Inside

Authentic country homes are surrounded by rolling fields and meadows. The exterior of a country home is often abundant with wildflowers, making it easy to bring those natural outdoor touches inside the home.

Even if your home is not really in the countryside, you can create the same effect by bringing external elements indoors. Add plenty of greenery to your home to get the authentic country home feeling.

Collect foliage plants, and pick your own flowers that you can use in your interior design. You can even get crafty and create your own décor items, such as a floral wreath or foliage centrepiece for your dining table.
