National Movie Night (June 9th) - How to create a home cinema on a budget
Everybody wants a home cinema, but not many homeowners can afford to create a flashy cinema room at home. Some home theatres can cost tens of thousands of pounds. So most of the time, it's not something that homeowners choose to prioritise.
With National Move Night coming up on June 9th, MyJobQuote’s expert, Thomas Goodman, has created a list of tips on how to create a home cinema on a budget. With these tips, everyone can enjoy a cinema experience at home.
The Big Screen Experience
If you're happy with your current TV, then, by all means, incorporate this into your home cinema experience. However, if you're looking to improve the cinema experience on a budget, consider investing in a projector. A projector can make a huge difference to home movie nights, and surprisingly, they don't cost all that much.
One of the benefits of a projector is that it doesn't take up too much space, and you can put it away when it's not in use. To get the most from your projector, you'll need to make the room as dark as possible, and you'll need to have some clear, white wall space.
A projector will make the movie experience feel unique, rather than simply watching a movie on the TV as normal. This is a great way to improve the overall home cinema experience.
The Signature Cinema Sound
Everybody knows you can't really rely on the built-in TV sound to get the proper cinema experience. At the very minimum, you'll want to invest in a soundbar to improve the sound aspects of the movie. Not only is a soundbar great for movie nights but it can also be used every day when watching TV. The improvement in sound from a soundbar, when compared to the built-in TV sound, is often quite astonishing. Soundbars come at varying prices, but you can get some for relatively cheap (under £100).
If you're looking for the full cinema experience, you may need to fork out a little bit more money. A surround sound system with rear speakers, a subwoofer, and Dolby Atmos support is the best option if you want to achieve cinema-quality sounds for your movie night. However, a system like this is usually around £500 minimum and for a decent surround sound set, you could be looking at paying thousands.
If the sound isn't that important to you, a soundbar is the recommended option.
The Cinema Seats
If you want proper cinema-style seats in your home cinema, you’ll be looking at forking out a few thousand. Your existing sofa is likely just as comfortable, so why not make use of that for your movie nights?
If you’re creating your home cinema in a separate room and you won’t have access to your sofa, you may need to think of alternative seating options. A great budget seating option for a home cinema is beanbags. Beanbags are great as they are low in cost and can be moved around, allowing you to find the perfect seating position. Alternatively, you could choose a second-hand sofa or some second-hand armchairs for added comfort.
The All-Important Snacks
It just wouldn’t be the cinema experience without the snacks and drinks. If you have enough in your budget, you may want to invest in a mini fridge for the cinema room. This will allow you to have cold drinks on hand whenever you want them. If you want something extra special for the drinks, you could even consider investing in a slushy machine. This will allow you to create slush-style drinks at home. You can purchase a slushie machine for around £60.
Popcorn is an important aspect of the cinema. Consider buying some pop-at-home bags of popcorn so you can have warm popcorn while enjoying your movies. These bags are quite simple to use. You just place them in the microwave for a few seconds, and the popcorn pops itself. Then you simply open the bag to warm popcorn.
If you have enough in your budget, you could even go one step further and purchase a popcorn machine which you can place in your cinema room. This will allow you to have warm popcorn on hand, and you can re-fill whenever you want.
Lastly, don’t forget about the sweets. You can create your own pick and mix by purchasing a few bags of sweets and some cardboard cups. Then, simply fill your cups with your favourite sweets, and you're good to go!
