The Napa Valley Wine Library Association Commemorates 50 Years of History with a Wine Tasting Celebration on August 19th, 2012

Napa Valley, CA July 16, 2012—The Napa Valley Wine Library Association will toast their 50 years of history this summer with a wine tasting celebration, “A Toast to History: Vintner’s Choice”. This is the Association’s 50th Annual Tasting and will feature 100 of the Napa Valley’s finest wineries. The event takes place on August 19, 2012, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the beautiful Oak Grove at the Silverado Resort & Spa in Napa, where the association has hosted its Annual Tasting for more than twenty-five years.

Founded in 1963, the Napa Valley Wine Library Association dedicates their efforts to the acquisition, preservation and sharing of information about wine and its history in the Napa Valley and around the world. In 1966, the association offered the first wine appreciation classes in the Napa Valley and today continues to host seminars and other educational events, as well as maintain a collection of new and rare books, images, oral histories, and scholarly and popular journals that document wines and wine growing. The collection offers incomparable resources for wine enthusiasts and professionals alike, and is available at the St. Helena Public Library in St. Helena, California.

“This event is the single best opportunity to taste the wines of Napa Valley and meet the owners, vintners and winemakers. Each winery will pour a current release and an older vintage in honor of the historic occasion,” says Carolyn Martini, President of the Napa Valley Wine Library Association. "It is something you don’t want to miss."

Preceding this exceptional wine tasting is a chance to meet and talk with a select number of young winemakers and winegrowers during the daylong event, "A Toast to the Future: the Next Generations," in St. Helena on Saturday, August 18 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. A dozen vintners will present their wines as they discuss their chosen livelihoods as members of the 2nd, 3rd, even 5th generations of their family-owned wineries during panel discussions and Q&A's at CIA-Greystone. The presentations are followed by an al fresco lunch from Bouchon Bakery served in the gardens of Spottswoode, where the association's Annual Tasting was held from 1966 until 1970. An optional tour of the adjacent vineyards and winery of Spottswoode Estate, celebrating its own 40th anniversary, concludes the Saturday event.
