Rehab centers field many calls during the winter when family members notice the change in their loved one’s behavior. During the holidays, theft among family members increases for drug addicts and, of course, it causes concern with the family. There may have been theft going on before that, but it may have been done to people other than family. Now that the opportunities are limited, the addicts are forced to steal from family members in order to feed their habit. There may be more anger flare-ups as well since it is not easy to simply leave the house during the winter. The addict may begin to feel somewhat “caged” and show more aggression.
While the behaviors are disturbing, there is one good thing that can be said about winter exposing more addictions; it also causes action and change. Living with an addict is one of the hardest things a person can endure. They love the addict, but hate the addiction.
