NCCN Welcomes University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center to Its Alliance of Leading Cancer Centers
University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center has been named the newest NCCN Member Institution; NCCN now has 27 Member Institutions serving patients throughout the United States.
FORT WASHINGTON, PA — The National Comprehensive Cancer Network® (NCCN®), an alliance of the nation’s leading cancer centers dedicated to quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of cancer care, today announced that University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center has been elected to institutional membership. NCCN now has 27 Member Institutions serving the needs of people with cancer throughout the United States.

Carlson, MD, Chief Executive Officer, NCCN. “UWCCC’s esteemed cancer center indeed brings unique attributes to the alliance, particularly its comprehensive palliative care program which includes an in-patient unit and consultation service, children’s hospital consultative service, and an outpatient onco-palliative care clinic.”

An integral part of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center unites more than 280 physicians and scientists who work together in translating discoveries from research laboratories into new treatments that benefit people with cancer. The only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center in Wisconsin, the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center provides the best available cancer care to more than 31,000 patients each year and participates in more than 250 clinical trials annually.

As an NCCN Member Institution, expert faculty from University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center will have the opportunity to represent their institution on the 49 multidisciplinary NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology (NCCN Guidelines®) Panels that set the standard of cancer care and oncology policy in the United States. Additionally, University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center investigators and patients will have the opportunity to participate in ground-breaking clinical trials offered through the NCCN Oncology Research Program (ORP).
Originally announced as an alliance of 13 leading cancer centers in 1995, NCCN is devoted to patient care, research, and education in order to improve the quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of cancer care so that patients can live better lives.
