NATIONAL DISABILITY INSTITUTE LAUNCHES 3RD ANNUAL MY AMERICAN DREAM VIDEO CONTEST
Americans with disabilities encouraged to submit videos sharing their American dreams for a chance to win $1,000, a digital tablet and sessions with a mentor
(Washington, D.C. – July 30, 2013) – National Disability Institute kicked off its 3rd Annual My American Dream – Voices of Americans with Disabilities Video Contest today. The contest encourages people with disabilities to share their American dreams via video for a chance to win $1,000, a digital tablet, and sessions with a mentor to help them take steps toward realizing their dreams.
“Americans with and without disabilities all want the same thing – a piece of the American dream. National Disability Institute’s My American Dream Video Contest raises awareness that having a career, starting your own business, going to college, buying a home and achieving financial independence are dreams shared by all Americans, dreams that every citizen should have an opportunity to achieve,” said Michael Morris, executive director of National Disability Institute, the nation’s first national non-profit dedicated exclusively to building a better economic future for all people with disabilities.
“Keeping the voices of Americans with disabilities at the forefront of the financial capability conversation will help advance competitive employment and economic self-sufficiency outcomes so all Americans have access to the economic mainstream and can claim their American dreams,” he added.
To enter, contestants must create and submit a three-minute video by Sept. 10, 2013, that showcases their personal story and the steps they are taking or plan to take toward achieving their American dream. Videos can be straightforward, funny, creative or serious. The approach is the contestants’ choice as long as their stories shine through, as seen by previous finalists.
Following the entry deadline, an independent panel will select five finalists. America will then have a chance to view the five finalist videos beginning Oct. 1, 2013 and cast their votes for the grand prize winner on the official contest website http://dream.realeconomicimpact.org. The contest winner will be announced by or before Oct. 31, 2013.
