The NFU Food and Farming Roadshow is moo-ving to the Surrey Show on May 31, taking the facts about farming into the community.

The Roadshow reaches out to one million consumers every year, helping a family audience to understand why farming matters to each and every one of us. During the Show it will be located at stand 379 off Second Avenue on the Stoke Park showground in Guildford. NFU Food and Farming Roadshow presenter Johnny Ball, who is supported by local farmers at each venue on the tour, says: “British farmers and growers have never been more important as they can provide society with a secure supply of safe food. We live in a changing world with a growing population and the threat of climate change on the horizon. So we should back our own food producers and buy British wherever possible, to keep farmers at the heart of our working British countryside.” The NFU Food and Farming Roadshow signposts consumers to home-produced food and provides information on how to identify British produce in the supermarket via the Red Tractor logo – www.myredtractor.org.uk There is also a section about food miles and the environmental importance of buying home-produced food over imported products that have often travelled thousands of miles. Freebies include recipe books, why farming matters pamphlets, stickers, vegetable seeds, an activity pack for young people and competitions. There is also a chance to milk a model dairy cow. www.surreycountyshow.co.uk
