June 25, 2010 Washington – Even though it’s been almost 18 months since Jeremy Piven abandoned David Mamet’s Broadway production of “Speed The Plow,” the actor continues to claim that his departure was caused by mono and mercury poisoning.  Piven’s most recent comments about his departure came today in an appearance on ABC Television’s “The View.”

The National Fisheries Institute (NFI) continues to caution reporters and editors to treat Piven's medical claims with skepticism.  No peer reviewed medical journal has ever published any evidence of a case of methylmercury poisoning caused by the normal consumption of commercial seafood in the U.S. Piven’s insistence on repeating his charges on day time television can’t change that simple scientific fact.
