SCHOOL WORK ON DISPLAY AT WALKER
Partnership with dot-art brings children’s creations to gallery
Liverpool City Region school children could see their own names alongside the likes of Rubens, Rembrandt and Riley in a new partnership between the Walker Art Gallery and dot-art Schools.
Winners of the dot-art Schools’ art competition will have their work displayed among the Walker’s world-famous collection from 17th May to 8th June 2014.
dot-art Schools’ second annual inter-school art competition is open to primary and secondary schools across the Liverpool City Region to enter until 20 December 2013.
Teachers interested in getting involved can find out more and complete an application form on the dot-art Schools website: www.schools.dot-art.com/what
The competition is designed to nurture talent, raise ambition and take art out of the classroom and into the real world. It is hoped the project will encourage young people to engage with the arts and enable their first steps towards a creative career path.
Kate Johnson, Senior Education Manager said: ”We are so pleased to be working with dot-art Schools. Art can be a powerful way for young people to express themselves and engage with the world. We hope the opportunity to have work displayed in a national gallery will encourage young artists to produce their very best. It will give visitors to the gallery a real sense of the talent and imagination of pupils from local schools.”
The Lord Mayor of Liverpool Councillor Millar said: “I am so pleased to offer my support to this great art project. It really does inspire the amazing young people of Liverpool to get involved. It's not every school child who gets to see their work on the walls of a gallery!”
Last year's winner, James Murphy, 14, of St Margaret's Academy, Aigburth said “I am really happy to have won. I want to be an animator and this exposure will give me a big step up”
Lucy Byrne, Managing Director, dot-art Services said: “We are so delighted to be working with the Walker Art Gallery. It's an incredible opportunity for the young artists of the Liverpool City Region to have a platform to show off their talents, and where better than the walls of Liverpool's most prestigious art gallery?”
