Navarre Beach Pier to Feature Team USA Olympic BP Chef Justin Timineri
Plus renowned “Good Morning America” TV Chef Diane Henderiks at Cooking Demonstration this Fall
Navarre Beach, FL — Navarre Beach Pier contingents aren’t just pulling for Team USA at the 2012 London Olympic Games; they’re also cheering on Florida’s Executive Chef Justin Timineri who along with seven other chefs is cooking up Gulf-sourced seafood for Team USA athletes as part of BP’s “Spirit of the Gulf” initiative. They plan to do the same this fall when Timineri is joined by leading U.S. chef Diane Henderiks for a cooking demonstration at Navarre Beach Pier.
“The Olympics offer a wonderful opportunity for Florida to showcase its food products to the world,” said Dorothy Slye, manager of Pier Inc, the company that manages Navarre Beach Pier. “We’re excited to build on this enthusiasm with a special cooking event right here on Navarre Beach Pier.”
Sponsored by Beach Magazine, this fall’s cooking demonstration will target kids and adults interested in healthy living and eating. Last year, Navarre Beach Pier gave away 426 fishing rods to local school children, and is giving away an additional 500 this fall. The Pier will invite these kids to fish in the morning to kickoff the event. A cooking event “Ladies Who Lunch” will fill the afternoon. The grand dignitaries event, “English Fish and Chips,” featuring Timineri, Henderiks, and other well-known chefs cooking fish fresh off the Pier, will round out the day.
“We are elated to host Timineri and Henderiks, and we’re in negotiations with Emerial Lagasse about participating, as well,” said Stuart Cannon, editor of Beach Magazine. “We’re also pleased to announce United Healthcare is in negotiations to join us as a star sponsor as our objective for this event is twofold: 1) along with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ Fresh from Florida campaign to promote our state’s culinary products, especially our fish, and 2) along with Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move Campaign to promote healthy lifestyles, including eating well.”
Cannon added the event will also shed light on several children’s individual stories of success against obesity, following their personal journeys as an inspiration to other youth in a hopeful and fun educational way.
In addition to Navarre Beach Pier’s cooking demonstration, Joe Patti’s world famous seafood market in Pensacola and Destin’s Dewey Seafood Restaurant and Market will hold similar events – also sponsored by Beach Magazine and featuring Timineri and Henderiks.
Timineri is the Executive Chef/Culinary Ambassador for the Florida Department of Agriculture, author, award winner, teacher, television personality, and international culinary ambassador helping the world to rediscover simple healthy cuisine. He is a native of Northwest Florida.
Henderiks, R.D. aka “Dietitian in the Kitchen™” is a leading U.S. nutritionist, personal chef, cookbook author, and television personality. She is contributing chef/RD for Prevention Magazine and regular on-air contributor for ABC’s “Good Morning America.” Her passion is teaching how to cook, shop, and live healthy.
The Navarre Beach Pier epitomizes the best of Florida attracting tourists, showcasing the state’s natural beauty, providing recreation such as fishing for local residents, and driving the economy. The spirit and symbol of Navarre Beach, it is located at 8579 Gulf Boulevard and is surrounded by 12-miles of breathtaking shoreline.
Spanning 1,545 feet, the Navarre Beach Pier is the longest pier in Florida and along the Gulf of Mexico. In its first two years of operation, Navarre Pier has welcomed more than 260,000 people. In addition to offering fishing and recreation for residents and visitors alike, it also features the Pier Bar and Grill.
