The Cedar House Sport Hotel announces summer 2013 “Tahoe Teasers”

Residents and visitors are invited to experience the Tahoe Truckee region like never before. The Cedar House Sport Hotel’s in-house adventure guiding company, Tahoe Trips and Trails, debuts offerings that tap the imagination and invigorate the senses.

Affectionately called “Tahoe Teasers,” the low cost, sometimes no cost, hiking experiences showcase the beauty and allure of the Sierra in a distinctly memorable way.

“We have handcrafted morning and sunset adventures with stellar guides and invite you to experience Tahoe through a completely new perspective and state of mind,” explains Patty Baird, owner of The Cedar House Sport Hotel. “Each hike includes a meaningful take away and distinctively positive and fun experience led by an outdoor enthusiast with in-depth knowledge.”

Tahoe Teasers include the new Sierra High Altitude Endurance Hikes, a Medicinal Plants and Forage Hike, Journaling on the Pacific Crest Trail, Birding treks and weekly Sunrise and Stretch Sunday nature walks. Medicinal Plants and Forage Hike, July 13

What was it like for hunters and gatherers in the rugged Tahoe wilderness? Discover the attributes of native and introduced species while learning about medicinal plants and foraging with Tahoe Trips and Trails’ guide and biologist Kelly Boire. The hike will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on July 13. The cost is $20 and only $10 for hotel guests.

Journaling on the Pacific Crest Trail, July 6 and Aug. 3

Wendy Lautner Speicher, author of “Day & Section Hikes Pacific Crest Trail: Northern California,” will lead a wilderness journaling workshop for no more than 15 people from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Whether you are a beginner hiker or an avid outdoor enthusiast, an infrequent writer or published author, this day trip will inspire wonder and awe while creating a constructive environment for authentic writing. Journaling on the Pacific Crest Trail includes an endurance lunch from Stella and a copy of Lautner Speicher’s "Day & Section Hikes PCT Northern CA." The cost is $45 per person.

Rubicon Trail Hike with the Alpine Glow Festival, June 22

Join Tahoe Trips and Trails’ guide Kelly Boire for a fun and informative historic hike on Lake Tahoe’s eastern shore from 8 a.m. to noon on Jun 22. Transportation is available on a first come basis for the first seven hotel guests who register. Free.

Sierra High Altitude Endurance Hikes, June 15, July 27, Aug. 17, 24 and 31, Sept. 7

Greet the morning with a 7 a.m. breakfast at The Cedar House Sport Hotel’s Stella followed by speed trek at 8 a.m. with Jeff Baird and Baxter, The Cedar House's friendly dog. Hikes begin around 7,000 feet. Participants must have the ability to power hike for two to three hours. Treks will average 5 to 8 miles with 1,000 to 1,500 vertical elevation change and are specifically geared for those in good athletic shape. The cost is $20 per person and $10 for hotel guests (includes breakfast and guide).

Birding, June 29, July 20, and Aug. 10

Explore the region’s expansive sounds with Glen Polochko, Tahoe Trips & Trails birding specialist. Guests may spot the Western Tanager, hear our Mountain Chickadee, learn about woodpeckers and diverse birds that migrate through the region.

“We think of Glen as our own David Attenborough. He has all the charm, knowledge and charisma plus a deep connection to the Tahoe region,” shares Baird. The cost is $20 per person, $10 for hotel guests. Departs from The Cedar House Sport Hotel at 9 a.m. on June 29, July 20 and Aug. 10 and wraps up at 11:30 a.m.

Sunday Sunrise and Stretch Nature Hikes, June 9, 16, 23 and 30, July 7, 14 and 28, Aug. 4, 11, 18 and 25 and Sept. 1 and 8 (every summer Sunday with exception of July 21)

“Science has shown that time immersed in the natural world benefits our overall mental and physical health. Our Sunday morning nature hikes are an ideal way to stretch out before an adventure packed week or before returning home,” shares Baird. Experience mindful stretching and breathing, an invigorating 3.5-mile morning hike and enriching cup of Tahoe Teas’ green tea with an exceptional Yoga guide. The weekly experience begins at The Cedar House and lasts from 8:30 to 11 a.m. The cost is $20, $10 for hotel guests.
