EXPERIENCE ART IN NATURE
Trails & Vistas announces 10th anniversary art hikes
Pacific Crest Trail on Donner Summit, Tahoe National Forest on Sept. 7 and 8, 2013
Trails & Vistas unites live music, dance, storytelling, sculpture and painting with the natural environment to create one of a kind art hikes in the Sierra Nevada. On Sept. 7 & 8, 2013 attendees from around the country will hike along the Pacific Crest Trail on Donner Summit in the Tahoe National Forest for Trails & Vistas 10th anniversary. The theme for the art hikes is “Reflections.”
“We are very excited to bring a depth of talent in dance, art and music from around the world to this magical trail with alpine lakes and glacier boulders,” said Nancy Tieken Lopez, executive and co-artistic director of Trails and Vistas. “We are lucky to have worked with so many talented artists since we began the art hikes in the Truckee and Lake Tahoe region. We have asked a number of artists to return, to help us honor the past and celebrate our 10th year anniversary.”
In addition to the art hikes, Trails & Vistas 10th anniversary concert will take place at the Truckee Regional Park Amphitheatre from 6 to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7.
THE ART HIKES
More than 30 participating artists including musicians, dancers, poets, singers and visual artists will perform aside stunning alpine lakes, next to a cathedral of pines and with breathtaking vistas as a backdrop. Artists include internationally acclaimed Angelika who sings songs and healing chants in ancient Sanskrit; Ian Ethan Case, a musician of the double-neck guitar and African Kalimba, whose rhythmic and melodic sounds are both innovative and deeply rooted in tradition; and Capacitor Dance, whose performance weaves seamlessly around the boulders and into the trees, among many others.
“We believe that the arts transform the human experience, that art is a gift to be shared. We proudly support this annual event,” explains Elizabeth Archer, InnerRhythms executive director and the co-artistic director of the Trails & Vistas art hikes.
Each hiker is encouraged to slow down, breathe deeply and listen to the language of nature during Trails & Vistas. Art hikes will be offered every 15 minutes from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 7 and 8. Specialty hikes include family hikes for those hiking with children, meditative hikes for those wanting an especially quiet and spiritual connection (adults only) and leisurely hikes for those who prefer or need a slower pace. Tickets will go on sale on April 22, Earth Day. Advance purchase is highly recommended (the event has sold out every year). Tickets cost $30 for adults and $10 for children. The art-hike lasts approximately 3 hours.
